What a match means: Bagsey provides evidence that the document is unchanged. It does not establish that the contents are true, that a signature is valid, or that the person supplying it had authority.
Names, folders and printed copies can tell you what a document appears to be. Bagsey helps you test whether the underlying digital file is still the exact version originally registered.
Keep the sealed file unchanged in secure, backed-up storage. Use a read-only or access-controlled matter folder where possible, and retain the original filename and file format.
Store a copy of the Bagsey certificate in the same matter or archive, and record its reference in your file note, document register or correspondence. The certificate identifies the fingerprint to test later.
Before relying on, disclosing or circulating a later copy, verify it against the Bagsey record. A match supports continuity; a mismatch tells you the file is different and should be investigated.
